Fall Hair
Do y’all hair prep for the fall season? I don’t know about you, but my hair becomes confused by the swaying temperatures and humidity. More like Don King. Do you relate? Do share! It’s on for the fall! So here are a few hair prep tips:
Trim your Hair
Get in the habit of trimming your hair once you see split ends! Brittle ends don’t snap back and will need some mechanical help (scissor power). Don’t worry a few inches will only enhance the look and feel of your hair and keep it healthy. Stop walking around with lifeless hair just to maintain length, no sah!
Turn Up The Moisture
Dry air (from the cool temps) makes your hair prone to dryness, split ends, itchy scalp, frizz and just makes it hard to slay all day! But here’s what you do. Look for moisturizing ingredients like jojoba oil, shea butter, glycerin to ensure hydration and moisture to those strands. Can I suggest you try Tropic Isle Living- Traditional Collection which includes the original and authentic Jamaican Black Castor Oil as well as our Herbal Collection which includes Jamaican Black Castor Oil infused with healing essential oils like lavender, rosemary, sage, aloe vera and coconut that will help nourish, seal and protect your hair. Use Steam to moisturize your hair
Growing up in the Caribbean it was a must to get a steam treatment for restored moisture and rejuvenation of your strands when you visited your hairdresser. True for you? Steaming your hair will help increase moisture retention and enhance your curls. Not to mention strengthening your strands for better ‘snap back’. It also opens up the cuticles from the warm vapors! Don’t worry this can be done without a steamer. Try this at home hot towel steam treatment!
- Dunk a towel in a bowl of hot water
- Squeeze off the excess
- wrap the wet warm towel around your hair
- Cover a shower cap over it and leave it on for 30mins.
- Rinse and style as usual.
Style smart with Scarfs, Knitted Hats and Wraps
We don’t think of it often but rough material from our fall and winter accessories will snag on our strands and cause breakage. Lining your hats, scarves and head wraps with silk material will help minimize breakage.
Massage your scalp
Undoubtedly, massages stimulate blood circulation to the scalp which helps promote hair growth. A good 5-10 min head massage before bed feels great and promotes better sleep!
